COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ANTIDEPRESSANT-LIKE EFFECT OF THE LEAVES OF SAPINDUS EMARGINATUS AND ACORUS CALAMUS IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODELS

Objective: Depression is an affective disorder characterized by a change in mood, lack of confidence, interest surroundings and many natural products that have been tried to treat the disease. The study was aimed evaluate compare antidepressant activity methanol leave extract SapindusemarginatusVahl. (MESE) Acoruscalamus Linn. (MEAC) experimental models albino mice.
 Methods: Methanol Extracts plants were prepared soxhlet extraction method. Forced swimming test (FST) Tail suspension (TST) chosen activity.Albino mice selected divided into six groups animals for each model. Group I received 1% gum acacia distilled water (DW) at dose 1 ml/100 g orally. II sertraline-10 mg/kg III IV administered 200 400 MESE respectively. V VI treated with MEAC, respectively.
 Results: extracts Sapindusemarginatus two different doses demonstrated significant decrease immobility time when compared control both animal models. higher revealed reduction same extract.
 Conclusion: results suggest andAcoruscalamus possessthe anticonvulsant activityand justify their use folk medicine.
